Another Fatal Crash on SH 71

At approximately 5:00 a.m. on August 3, Llano County Dispatch received reports of a major accident in the 10,000 block of SH 71 East. One of the vehicles was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived on scene.

The Llano Volunteer Fire Department (VFD), assisted by the Llano Police Department, Llano County Sheriff’s Office, Hamilton EMS, and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), responded immediately. Firefighters extinguished the burning vehicle and established a landing zone for an emergency medical helicopter.

According to law enforcement, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling westbound on SH 71 crossed over the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2015 Ford F-150. The impact caused the Grand Prix to catch fire, and both occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The two individuals in the F-150 sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported for medical treatment—one by air ambulance and the other by ground. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
