Llano City Council Commits to Water Security with $7M Dam Project Approval

Monday July 21, 2025, the City Council meeting was gaveled to order at 5:30 pm. After a procedural vote to accept the minutes from prior meetings, Council addressed this week’s agenda.

Starting with an item that has the potential to bring substantial change to this City, discussion to approve the acceptance of a $3.5 million grant and $3.5 million low interest loan (2.25% over 30 years) for the dam reclamation project. This is the next step in securing funding to raise the height of both dams and thereby substantially increasing the City’s water supply.

After several minutes of discussion Mayor Laura Almond asked for a motion and Council members Kara Gilliland, Larry Sawyer, Travis Allen, Les McDaniels, and Kelli Tudyk voted unanimously to approve. The application, approval, and permitting may take years and it will be years before construction of this project begins and years more before it concludes but everything needs a place to start, and with this action, council has started the process.
