Brazosport Big Band Performs at the Odeon on August 9

  • Source: Mason County News

On Saturday, August 9, at 7:00 pm, the Odeon Theater presents a special evening of entertainment with The Brazosport Big Band. The 18-member big band is comprised of music educators and professional musicians from southern Brazoria County, including trombonist Richard Birk, son of Mason residents Ron and Albert Birk. The performance is sponsored by the Birks, in celebration of their 70th wedding anniversary, and all ticket sales will go to support the Odeon Preservation Association.

The band draws from a repertoire of over 300 songs including classics from the great big bands of Glen Miller, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington as well as the more recent big bands of Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, and the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band.

Tickets for the concert are $25 per person and may be purchased in advance at theodeontheater.com or at the door (cash only). Students 18 and under can purchase tickets for $10 at the door, if seats are available. For additional concert information and questions regarding reservations, email [email protected]. Sangria, donated by Sandstone Cellars, will be available by the glass, while supplies last.

The Odeon Theater is located on the square in Mason, Texas. The theater is owned and operated by the 501(c) (3) non-profit Odeon Preservation Association.
