Blanco Performing Arts and Cactus Pear Music Festival joined forces to co-present a special Count on It Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The concert was made possible by the generosity of C.A. Rust III.

The concert began with a trio consisting of the Jeffrey Sykes, artist director of the Pear Cactus Music Festival, on piano, with So Jin Kim on violin and Jonah Kim on cello. Since this is currently the 29th anniversary of the Pear Cactus Music Festival, both the works for Friday had a connection to the number 29. The first piece was Schubert, Piano Trio in E-flat major, D 929 and the second was Beethoven String Quintet in C major, Opus 29.

Franz Schubert’s Piano Trio has been arranged for violin, cello and piano. In the first movement, Allegro (fast and lively pace), the piece conjures images of bees gathering pollen to make honey, but instead producing music sweeter than honey could ever hope to be. These three musicians create a synergy in which the whole surpasses the sum of the parts. In compositions this familiar, every thoughtfully placed nuance displays their perfection.
