The Fourth of July weekend in Llano County and surrounding communities took an unexpected turn as historic flooding in Central Texas forced major holiday events to cancel, postpone, or adapt amid dangerous conditions.
Rain fell steadily on Independence Day as devastating news from Kerrville, Ingram, and Hunt traveled as swiftly as the floodwaters. With flash flood alerts issued county after county and rivers rising to twice their flood stage—carrying debris and powerful currents into the surrounding lakes—officials and event organizers had no choice but to pivot, canceling holiday celebrations to protect the community.
In Horseshoe Bay, the annual fireworks display at the resort was postponed to Saturday, July 5. Resort officials cited safety concerns for guests and staff, and expressed solidarity with flood-affected families. “We hold all those who are impacted close to our hearts,” the resort stated. “We ask residents and guests to be vigilant as debris continues to flow into Lake LBJ. Please secure any property that may be affected.”
