Johnson City hired Brent Kornegay, formerly at Three Rivers ISD, as its athletic director and head football coach in the spring.
Kornegay has been coaching high school football since 1989, and despite retiring in 2020, he returned to coaching in 2022 when Orange Grove ISD, a school he had previously coached at, gave him a call to offer him the coaching position once again. He led two successful football seasons at Orange Grove before moving to Three Rivers for a third postretirement season. Kornegay credits his wife for encouraging him to return to the football sidelines.
“She knew what my passion was,” Kornegay said. “I enjoy being around kids, and as long as I’m having fun doing this and getting to watch them grow and develop them, then I’ll continue to do it.”
