The Blanco County Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding Tuesday with Hill Country MHDD to fund a mental health deputy position with the precinct 4 constable’s office.
The grant is for $48,000 per year, and the county will be responsible for a minimum of 25 percent, which is $12,000. The funding will provide “a dedicated deputy constable to work for mental health, which would give us two deputies in the precinct 4 area,” said Welsey Patton of the Blanco County Community Paramedic Program. Funding will begin Sept. 1.
Patton said that Precinct 4 Constable Josh Bucy will ask the commissioners for a fulltime deputy position for his office in July. In addition to mental health responsibilities, other duties for the position will include rabies control, environmental issues and other tasks.
