In recent action of the Horseshoe Bay Memorial Association Board, the 10 acre property which contains the Eileen M. Hurd Nature Preserve, the existing Mausoleum I and the future Mausoleum II has been named Memorial Park at Horseshoe Bay.
The board reminds those considering purchases that the “New Founders” pre-construction discount for purchase of crypts and niches in Mausoleum II will expire on July 1. There will be a second price increase on Jan. 1, 2026. Construction planning for Mausoleum II appears to be on schedule for completion in the fall of this year.
HSB historian Jim Jorden describes the rapid progress the new Memorial Association Board has made in just one year: “In 2024 a group of concerned citizens gathered to discuss the future of the mausoleum. At that time, there was a waiting list for spaces, with no active plans to meet that need; maintenance was being deferred, and the Memorial Association had operated at a financial loss for several years. An independent, nine-member board of directors assumed management of the Memorial Association in June 2024. Since then, maintenance of the existing Mausoleum I has been completed; current owners have contributed about $65,000 to a reserve fund dedicated to ongoing maintenance; a contract has been signed for the construction of a new Mausoleum II, the cost of which has been totally underwritten by a generous, anonymous resident; sales of spaces in the future Mausoleum II have created another reserve fund of about $400,000 (and growing); and additional land has been donated by both the city and the resort, bringing the total campus to about ten acres.”
