At their Monday meeting, Mason County Commissioners reviewed departmental reports and had a special presentation from three of the eleven Mason 4-H members who participated in the Texas 4-H Roundup in College Station last weekend.
Phoenix Arrazola, Adalie Thomas, and Bronwyn Underwood represented Mason in a variety of competitions at the event and reported to commissioners on the positive experiences they had. Phoenix was part of the Livestock Skillathon team which placed first and will travel to Kentucky to compete in the National Contest in November. Adalie sang the National Anthem the first night at the Roundup, and Bronwyn was part of the Wool and Livestock Judging teams. “We are very, very proud of all these kids and what they’ve accomplished,” said Agrilife Extension Agent Sam Spradlin. The Mason Agrilife leaders are gearing up for Clover Camp this week, where they will have 34 kindergarten through second grade participants.
Mason County Librarian Cristi Slocum reported that the “Messy Art Day” on June 2 was a success. An event to kick off the summer reading program, the art day gave kids an opportunity to do foam painting, splatter painting, sponge painting and other “messy” activities outside at Heritage Park. Commissioners approved the purchase of play equipment for Camp Discovery, the play area outside the library. Funds from the Friends of the Library/Study Club will pay no more than $3,700.13 for the new toy kitchen and other equipment.
