State Accountability: Mason ISD Received a Score of 89 for 22-23 School Year

Editor’s note: The score of 89 described in this article is for the 2022-2023 school year STAAR/EOC performance of Mason ISD. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) school ratings for 2022-23 and 2023-24 were delayed in release by litigation between school districts and the TEA. The lawsuit was settled in May 2025. Ratings that address 20242025 student achievement are expected in August 2025.

The Mason Independent School District was one point away from being graded as an A school district for the 2022-23 school year, according to recently released accountability results, but leaders are spending more time looking ahead than at the past.

“We have some things to work on, and student growth is always an item we look at closely,” said MISD Superintendent Sean Leamon, who spoke with the News on Monday. Leamon has led the school district for just over a year since taking the helm in May of 2024. “We look at how students perform on a test in the previous year and measure the growth made during the next year. When we get that growth every year, we start closing the gaps and increasing the success of our students.”

The Texas Education Agency graded MISD at an 89, which is a B. Accountability results for the 2022-23 school year were released to the public in April after being blocked by litigation.
